La mort de John McAfee, la semaine dernière, dans sa prison de Barcelone, a soulevé les doutes d’une partie de complosphère, qui remet en cause la thèse du suicide. Explications.

John McAfee, le créateur américain du célèbre logiciel antivirus portant son nom, s’est suicidé la semaine dernière. L’homme d’affaires de 75 ans s’est pendu dans sa cellule de prison à Barcelone, alors qu’un tribunal local venait d’ordonner son extradition aux Etats-Unis où il était accusé de fraude fiscale. Quelques minutes après sa mort, une lettre Q, en noir sur fond blanc, a été publiée sur son compte Instagram, soit le signe de ralliement des complotistes de la mouvance QAnon, des extrémistes pro-Trump persuadés de lutter contre des élites pédophiles et satanistes.

Instantanément, la mort de l’excentrique millionnaire a agité les cercles complotistes, principalement aux Etats-Unis, qui ont mis en doute la thèse du suicide. Le hashtag #JohnMcAfeeDidntKillHimself (« John McAfee ne s’est pas suicidé ») s’est ainsi répandu sur les réseaux sociaux. En France, le chanteur Francis Lalanne a aussi fait part de ses interrogations, évoquant « l’Etat profond ».
