Des propos du président rwandais Paul Kagame niant les crimes commis par des armées étrangères il y a plus de vingt ans en République démocratique du Congo suscitaient mardi de vives réactions dans le pays, où beaucoup y ont vu du « négationnisme ».

Dans une interview accordée lundi aux médias français RFI et France 24, M. Kagame, de passage à Paris à l’occasion d’un sommet Afrique, a affirmé que dans l’Est de la RDC, « il n’y a pas eu de crime, absolument pas (…)« .

La RDC a connu deux guerres entre 1996-97 et 1998-2003, particulièrement meurtrières et qui ont déstabilisé en profondeur la région frontalière des Kivus, aujourd’hui encore en proie à la violence des groupes armés. Le pays a ainsi frôlé l’éclatement au cours de ces conflits impliquant de nombreuses milices et les armées de plusieurs pays de la région, en particulier le Rwanda et l’Ouganda.

La prise de position de M. Kagame « n’est ni plus ni moins que du négationnisme des crimes commis en RDC », a déclaré à l’AFP le député Juvénal Munubo, rapporteur de la commission défense et sécurité à l’Assemblé nationale. « Paul Kagame n’était jamais allé si loin dans sa façon de narguer les Congolais« , a estimé cet élu, partisan du président Félix Tshisekedi, mais qui s’est dit « étonné du silence » des autorités congolaises.

« Nous n’accepterons pas les propos négationnistes de qui que ce soit sur les crimes commis en RDC« , a fustigé pour sa part l’opposant Martin Fayulu, déplorant que « les Congolais se fassent narguer (par M. Kagame) du fait de l’absence d’un leadership légitime, responsable et fort à la tête du pays ».
